As part of our ongoing efforts to promote safe cycling infrastructure in Calgary, Calgarians for Cycle Tracks conducted a candidate survey in key wards for the 2017 municipal election. Calgary has made significant progress since 2013 with the opening of the Cycle Track Network, which has logged over a million trips, increased the proportion of people cycling downtown as well as the number of female, youth and elderly riders.

Amazon HQ2 RFP Makes a Beeline For The Bike Lanes

Cities set to bid on future second headquarters

There’s been much stirring and excitement with the announcement by Amazon that they’re looking to open a second headquarters in another North American city where they will hire as many as 50,000 new full-time employees and invest an estimated $3.7 Billion in capital and $25.7 Billion in compensation to employees. This week the company issued an RFP for Amazon HQ2 (Request for Proposals) opening a bidding war in cities across the United States and Canada that are hungry to attract new business and economic investment.

On December 19th, City Council made the historic vote 10-4 to make the entire Cycle Track Network permanent. This was a huge victory for all the ordinary Calgarians and Calgary businesses that voiced their support for the network over the last three years.

HELP NEEDED: Save the Cycle Track Network!

The Cycle Track Network pilot was opened in June of 2015 and has been a huge success. But the pilot is now officially over and City Council will soon decide whether to make it permanent or scrap it altogether.
